The magnesium hydroxide is a kind of weak base with many advantages, such as buffering, great activity, strong capacity, safety, no toxic, no harm, high decomposition temperature, good heat stability, smokeless, smoke suppression, etc. At present, it has been widely used in environmental protection and flame retardant field . It is the most prospective and eco-friendly inorganic flame retardant now, and become the research focus. As a kind of additive in inorganic flame, magnesium hydroxide has these advantages:
(1) Excellent flame retardance. The flame retardance of magnesium hydroxide is superior to aluminium hydroxide.
(2) Harmless characteristic. In the course of preparation and applications, the exhaust emission has no any harm(This is a true environmental protection material).
(3) Rich raw materials resources. China has rich magnesium resources, and the brine discharged from potash fertilizer factory can be used as raw material of magnesium hydroxide.
(4) Compared with organic brominated flame-retardants, it has a lower cost and more competitive in economy.
